Judy started spinning wool several years ago. As a natural progression, she started to knit also. One of her favorite things to make are winter hats. These hats are 100% wool unless otherwise stated. The wool is either from our sheep or small family farm sheep that we buy from friends. It is either hand processed by Judy or, at times, she will send it to a local small business in Post Falls Idaho. Many hours go into these hats, unlike the cheap items on the shelves these days.  She knit a bit of lace detail into the hat and topped it off with a tassel for fun!
This hat should last you a lifetime. Hand wash in cold and air dry. If you put it in the washer and dryer, you will ruin it. These watch caps are popular with all ages. The hat is a fits most hat and should fit most people. If you have a small or large hat size, call us to make special arrangements for size and even color.

This particular hat is from Border Leicester wool that Judy bought from our shearer.  He was at another ranch where the sheep are beautiful, natural lawn mowers.  The owners don't want the wool, so he shears them each year and gets the bags and bags of gorgeous fleece that she just could not resist.   She spun several hundred yards and then dyed them in many colors.  She then knit them into some hats and this is the red one.  This one even has  a bit of lace detail in it.

This is the blue version of the border Leicester wool that I got from my sheep shearer.  These great sheep are owned to keep the grass mowed on a small ranch in Idaho.  The owners have them sheared each year and then give the wool to the shearer.  It made some wonderful yarn which I hand dyed and knit into nice warm watch caps.  As with all real wool, hand wash only and dry flat.  If you use a bit of vinegar in the wash water the colors will stay nice and bright.

I just love working with colors!  Either with rich, warm natural colors or bright hand dyed colors, it just feeds the artist inside me!   My friend Pam taught me this technique of variegated color dying and I think my first efforts have turned out well.  Once dyed, the colors create texture and dimension that you just can't duplicate. So each one of my watch hats are one of a kind. I may use that color again, but no two caps will ever look the same!  This is more of the Border Leicester wool, obviously, in bright turquoise.  Hand wash in cool water with a bit of vinegar in the water to keep the colors bright, then dry flat.  Wool wears well, and with proper care, can last for decades.  Enjoy!

These three colors are what we currently have with a tassel. See our other caps without tassle for other colors.
